One day history knocked on their door and they couldn’t forbid it to come in. When situation is something beyond you, it’s important to accept it and not to loose yourself. It’s always very individual: one’s personality can be damaged, other’s becomes stronger. Inhuman situation sometimes gives one a chance to become even more a human.
Listening to live witnesses we have an opportunity to see the real history – not something written in text-books, but something that took part in their every day life.
The remembrances are something like a chain. When reconstructing a former event, the whole situation appears in front of your eyes. In such a way we go beyond the common facts to individualize the history, to see it as a part of one’s concrete destiny.
Civil position
Civil position bases on personality. It’s connected to values, principles, giving a vector to one’s behavior.
Extraordinary conditions (like the situation of war) are difficult to manage, because they usually crush common morality. But it becomes easier to act when you do it according to definite values. Realizing the reference point one can adopt any situation to his or her own aims.
Civil position is not separate from action. Acting in a situation of a choice one can even reveal his or her position, especially when values such as humanity are under attack.
Civil courage
Civil courage is an application of civil position in a situation of a risk. It’s important to be ready to claim your principles, even when situation is against them. Such a way you can show what is humanity in practice. To have civil courage means not to think of humanity, but to act according to it.
